Sgt Thomas Henry Orr DCM whilst in the 1st Gloster Regiment saw service in Abbassia Cairo in 1929.
14 March 1904 enlist as a Soldier in 2nd Battalion, The Gloucestershire Regiment, no. 2162. 1911 census at Cambridge Barracks, Portsmouth. Saw service in India. After completing the required seven years with the Regulars, Thomas Orr took his discharge in 1911 and went back to civilian life while remaining a Reservist.1st Gloucesters were mobilized at Bordon on 7th August 1914, with hundreds of Reservists flocking back to the Colours, including Thomas Orr, now posted to D Company. He landed with the battalion at Le Havre on 13th August. Mentioned in dispatches in October, 1914, and awarded the D.C.M. for his share in bringing back a wounded scout, in doing so he, and Pte. Law, who was also awarded the D.C.M. had to cross an open belt of ground, 100 yards wide swept by shell fire, he also possessed the British War, and Victory Medals. Demobilised in March 1919. As well as his D.C.M., he was entitled to the 1914 Star, the British War Medal and the Allied Victory Medal. A month later, Thomas Orr re-enlisted in the Royal Fusiliers, as part of a significant contingent of volunteers from 1st Gloucesters for the British North Russia Relief Force, aiding the White Russians against the Bolsheviks around Archangel and Murmansk . He remained in Russia for six months, his service number with the Royal Fusiliers being 130161.
In 1920 Thomas Orr re-enlisted with the Gloucesters. In 1927, Thomas Orr was one of the small contingent from 1st Gloucesters who represented the battalion at the unveiling of the War Memorial to 1st Division in France. Discharged 18th February 1931
