From Genforum August 18th 2007 "- When Joseph died in 1967 at the age of 93 his family discovered that his real name was JOSEPH COURTNEY (could also be Courtenay or Courteney). The death was registered in the December quarter of 1967 in Hounslow (ref 5c 475)
By the time his 'wife' Johanna died in 1969, the legal system had realised she had been living with Joseph Palmer but, because this was a bogus name, they made her adopt the name of Courtney. The death register for the June quarter of 1969 in Watford names her as Joanna Courtney (without the 'h'). The couple's children kept the name of Palmer." - Christine Sadler
