Emanuel had changed his name to Richard Henry Smith and committed Bigamy by marrying Christina Ferguson. Marriage was annulled in 1942. He was then sentenced in Glasgow and was again imprisoned.

As a 13-year-o boy in 1910 he was arrested for burglary and received 6 strokes of the birch. Registered as a Habitual Criminal he spent many years in jail in various prisons during his life. He also used the name Frederick Jones, Emanuel Martin, Arthur Gaskell and Richard Henry Smith.
