On 8th Nov 1893 'Pedlar' Palmer had a 3 round Benefit exhibition fight with William Pike at the Custom Kouse Victoria B.C.Freemasons Road in aid of his father Robert Palmer.
He owed a Tobacco shop in 213 Barking Road, Plaistow run by his brother Matthew. In 1906 after leaving his first wife he lived with Rebecca Hall. Spent 1 month in prison at Xmas 1906 for assault. Address given as 33 Shandy Street Mile End. He killed Robert Choat on a train returning from Epsom races on 22 April 1907. Choat died from a fatal blow to a neck artery following a argument with Palmer. After 3 months in custody Palmer was found guilty of Manslaughter at Guildford Assises on 15th July 1907 and given five years penal servitude. Released from Portland Prison on 29th April 1911 on licence. Father of Robert Thomas born 1914 and claimed to be father of Timothy born 1907.

1921 census living a1 British Street, Poplar, London with Mother and father Thomas Palmer and half siblings all with surname wrongly given as PALMER. June 1936 joined as a steward on The Orient Line passenger ship, the Orford. This ship led the line of merchant ships at the ceremonial opening of the Sydney Harbour Bridge in 1932. Built by Vickers Amstrong at Barrow in 1928, the Orford was bombed and beached at Marseilles while evacuating troops from France in 1940. In 1947 the Orford was refloated and scrapped.
Bobby jumped ship abroad and returned by 1937 and obtained a licence as a boxing timekeeper.
