Emigrated to Victoria, Australia 15 August 1852.on the ship Orestes that left London. Arrived in Port Phillip, Victoria on 5 December in the same year. Abraham was one of 177 passengers aboard the ship.

Form buisness partnership of Rees & Benjamin watchmakers and jewellers of Ballarat, Victoria, Australia in the late 1850’s and early 1860’s.

The Ballarat Goldfields attracted miners as well as businessmen. News from the Victorian Goldfieldsof substantial finds of alluvial nuggets of gold and deep mining reefs had for the past three years attracted many miners from all over the world. Finds at locations like Golden Point and nearby Streaky Point meant that towns like Ballarat grew quickly. The miners needed more substantial accommodation other than their tents; additional equipment from suppliers; food and clothing; drinking and eating venues; businessmen and offices to buy their nuggets; and then of course, businesses to spend on luxurie.

In 1864 the partnership between Abraham Charles Rees and joseph Benjamin was finally dissolved.

1862 Abraham Charles Rees leaves for Dunedin, New Zealand. 28 Aug 1862, he was appointed as the first captain of the Dunedin Fire Brigade and established a tobacconist business in Stafford Street, Dunedin. Joined the United Grand Lodge of England -Freemasons Lodge soon after his arrival in Dunedin. Became bankrupt 7 Mar 1868. Had built up a debt that amounted to £361/10/4.
