Born Abraham Dawid. Change name to Colski after arriving in London from Poland in 1866/7. 1871 census family living at 259 Cable Street, london. 1881 & 1891 census surname spelled KOLSKI and living at 30 Mulberry Street, Mile End. 1901 at 120 Sidney Street, Stepney. 1911 census living with son Tobias at 151 Tredegar Road. Age at death given as 73.
Davis had an eventful life, he was recorded as a day labourer on his marriage record in Poland. After arriving in London 1866 or 7 he was a furrier but was made bancrupt in 1878. He then became a ships chandler. He stood trial at the Old Bailey 7 Aug 1880 over the theft of some furs, he was found not guilty, the culprit Meyer Goodman, who lived in the same house, 30 Mulberry Street, where the furs were found, confessed and said Davis had nothing to do with it. Myer Goodman is listed in the 1881 census a residing at Holloway Prison. 2
